Remodeler reviewing Local Services Ads eligibility, capacity and booked walkthrough metrics

Local services ads for remodelers are worth enabling when three things line up: you can answer fast, you sell high ticket kitchen, bath, addition or whole home work, and your service area matches where you actually build. If any of those are missing, LSA can burn budget on contacts you cannot turn into walkthroughs.

This guide is for remodelers and general contractors. It is not for fence crews, lawn services or other low ticket trades. The wider organic and site system that supports those high ticket jobs lives on our general contractor SEO and Google Ads for remodelers hub. Use that hub for the full program; use this article to decide whether Local Services Ads belong in the mix.

What Local Services Ads are for remodelers

Local Services Ads are Google listings that can appear prominently in Search when someone looks for a service you offer in an area you cover. Homeowners can call, message or request a booking through the ad. Google's own getting started guide states that you pay for leads related to your business and services, not for every click the way standard Search Ads usually bill.

Eligible United States categories for this ICP include kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling and general contractor, among other home services. Category lists change, so confirm current eligibility in your Local Services dashboard or on Google's getting started page before you plan budget.

Google Verified is the badge eligible profiles can show after screening. Google's help center describes Google Verified as a signal that the business passed proprietary screening. Earlier Google Guarantee badging and its related consumer money back program were discontinued for Local Services Ads; do not sell LSA to clients as if that old guarantee still applies. Always read the current badge article before you promise anything on a sales call.

Eligibility and verification (high level)

Google requires a screening and verification process before ads run with the Google Verified badge. Requirements vary by category and location. For remodeler related US categories, Google's requirements pages commonly list items such as:

  • A public, verified Google Business Profile linked to the Local Services account
  • Business registration checks for select users
  • License checks where local law requires them (business and owner licenses on a state level, when applicable)
  • Insurance checks for select users (often general liability)
  • Background or identity related checks for select users

Google states that, on average, screening takes about three to four weeks after you submit documents. Some advertisers may see pre badge ads while finishing remaining checks; those listings sit below fully verified providers. Review your dashboard for the exact checklist that applies to your category. Official detail: Business screening and verification requirements and Understand the screening and verification process.

LSA vs Search Ads vs SEO for remodel jobs

Use this comparison as a planning table, not a universal ranking of channels.

Local Services Ads
  • Lead based billing: calls, messages and bookings count under Google's rules
  • Controls are categories, service area, hours and budget
  • Google Verified badge is the trust signal when earned
  • Can move faster once verification is complete
  • Profile and review history live on Google's product, not yours
Search Ads (education)
  • Usually click based billing
  • Controls are keywords, ads, landing pages and schedules
  • Trust signal is the ad copy and landing proof you control
  • Can start as soon as the account and ads are live
  • Account structure is yours to keep; clicks stop when spend stops

Neither paid channel replaces the site and SEO system behind it. No media click or lead fee applies to organic pages, but page structure, content, your Google Business Profile, reviews and internal links take months to build and keep working after you stop spending. Remodel sales cycles are often longer than emergency trades, so many shops use LSA for near term contacts and SEO for the longer research path. For a roofing focused channel comparison with the same honesty about billing and control, see Google Ads vs Local Services Ads for roofers. Search Ads can cover specific queries when eligibility and budget support a test; that is education only here. New Google Search Ads management enrollments remain on hold at SF Web Tech, so treat Search as optional learning, not the CTA. Overview pages: Google Ads for roofers and Google Ads management.

When remodeler LSA is worth turning on

Enable or keep LSA when most of these are true:

  1. Ticket size supports paid leads: full kitchen or bath remodels, additions and multi room packages leave room after the lead fee. Tiny punch list jobs often do not.
  2. Someone answers: Google notes that weak response to calls and messages can hurt ad ranking. Remodel leads go cold when voicemail sits overnight.
  3. Service types match what you sell: turn on kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling or general contractor categories that match real scopes. Leaving handyman style or repair only toggles on when you do not want those jobs creates paid noise you may not credit.
  4. Service area matches crews: advertise towns you serve weekly, not a radius tool fantasy.
  5. Review base is honest and growing: LSA and Map Pack share reputation signals. Thin or ignored reviews make paid and organic harder.
  6. You can book walkthroughs: the win is a scheduled site visit or design meeting, not a raw lead count.

When to skip or delay LSA

Pause or wait when:

  • You are booked out and cannot take new walkthroughs for months (pause rather than pay for work you will decline)
  • No one owns phone and message response during business hours
  • Your margin on small jobs cannot absorb lead fees
  • Licenses, insurance or documents are not ready for screening
  • You only want whole home design build work and your category setup floods you with fixture only requests you refuse
  • You expected LSA to replace a weak website, thin service pages or an inactive Google Business Profile

In those cases, fix capacity, proof and the site first. The general contractor SEO hub is the right home for that work.

How to measure: booked walkthroughs and sold jobs

Judge local services ads for remodelers with stages you control:

  1. Platform contact (call, message or booking request)
  2. Accepted remodel opportunity (fits ticket, area and scope)
  3. Booked walkthrough or design meeting
  4. Proposal sent
  5. Job sold and deposit collected

Track cost against accepted opportunities and sold jobs, not against every billed lead. Google's how leads work help page describes valid leads, automated quality filters and dispute or credit paths for some invalid contacts. Policies and credit rules change, and not every unwanted remodel inquiry qualifies for a credit. Keep your own CRM truth separate from the platform dashboard.

Do not use invented cost per lead or close rate benchmarks from blogs as your plan. Price the channel from Google's budget tools, your market and your own close data after enough booked meetings.

Practical setup notes (without overclaiming)

  • Confirm categories on Google's current list before you promise coverage.
  • Upload accurate licenses and insurance; mismatched legal names slow verification.
  • Set hours you can staff.
  • Ask for reviews through allowed workflows after real jobs; never buy or invent them.
  • Dispute only when a charge fails Google's stated rules, and do it inside the stated window.
  • Re read badge and lead help articles when Google updates them (Google Verified replaced older Guarantee language).

Paid acquisition packages that can include eligible Local Services Ads as a channel choice are listed on the pricing page: Lead Launch is $1,500/month, Lead and Local Growth is $2,000/month, Local Authority is $3,500/month. Advertising spend is separate, starting at $50/day across agreed channels. Channel choice follows fit and results; we do not force every account onto Search Ads, and Search Ads acquisition enrollments remain on hold.

FAQ

Are kitchen and bath remodelers eligible for Local Services Ads in the US?

Google's United States getting started list includes kitchen remodeling, bathroom remodeling and general contractor. Availability still depends on your area and on passing screening. Check eligibility in the product.

Is Local Services Ads the same as Google Search Ads?

No. LSA is a lead based local listing product with screening and a Google Verified badge path. Search Ads are usually click based campaigns you build around keywords and landing pages. Compare them on control, billing and sales cycle fit, not on a single better label.

Does Google Verified mean Google Guaranteed still applies?

No. Google's help center describes Google Verified as the current badge after screening. The older Google Guarantee badge and its consumer money back program were discontinued for Local Services Ads. Do not market the old guarantee as current.

Should every remodeler run LSA and SEO together?

Not automatically. Run LSA when capacity, categories and ticket size support it. Keep investing in SEO when you need owned pages and proof for longer remodel research. Many shops eventually use both; sequence them to the bottleneck you have today.

Can SF Web Tech enroll us in Google Search Ads management right now?

Search Ads management acquisition is on hold. We can still educate on how Search differs from LSA, and we can discuss eligible Local Services Ads inside paid acquisition packages when they fit. Book a strategy call for current options.
